Recorded last year at The Toff In Town in Melbourne, AUS. I haven't performed live since March when I travelled to New York to play at The New Colossus Festival, so revisiting this track with this recording is really special to me.
I'm writing this from the middle of Stage 4 lockdowns here in Melbourne, where we have a curfew every night from 8pm, and can only leave our houses briefly for exercise and to buy food once a day. Things might not ever be "normal" again, but I believe wholeheartedly that things can still get better.
'In Memory Of' is about moving on, letting the past be, and progressing. This recording is a reminder to me of how many amazing opportunities I've had to perform alongside artists I love, and reminds me of how many opportunities in that space still lay ahead of me. I can't wait to share more with you all soon, and hopefully perform live again before the year is through. Thank you so much for all of your support.
xoxo Wolfjay.
lyrics
I hear the wolves coming,
Coming closer,
But they’ll never get close to me,
Cos I’ve been running,
Longer than the river, No, they’ll never get close to me.
And I heard you calling out to me
When I just wanted to be alone,
Cos you only came running
when you realised I was gone,
But I left a long, long time ago,
I was sick of the neglect,
And now I’ve learnt to hunt and hide,
and fend for myself
And there’s only heartache when I think
Of the years I spent with you,
All my happy memories,
I’m hating,
Do what you need
to find your peace,
But leave me out of it
I don’t care what you think of me,
After this
I’ll pass you in the street,
Pretend I don’t recognise your face
anymore, anymore, anymore
Remember the man you thought I was,
And realise it was a lie,
All along, All along, all along
I hear the wolves coming,
Coming closer,
But they’ll never get close to me,
Cos I’ve been running,
Longer than the river,
No, they’ll never get close to me.

Impossibly endearing — I can't wait for Elsie's new EP! As an Adelaide kid originally I can't help but project every childhood memory of friends and family on to this one. So beautiful. Wolfjay
I'm very excited for this new record from Braille Face, the first taste of it 'Original Cast Recording' has made me cry a few times during lockdown. Feels like a warm embrace from someone I can't see Wolfjay
Last year after I moved to Melbourne I went to a Bad Apples label show in a park in the northern suburbs and it was just the most perfect thing. This album reminds me of that show. I love it a lot. Wolfjay
